Insuring with Pride

When the All Blacks played the British & Irish Lions in New Zealand on Saturday, June 24, for what was one of the most-watched global sporting events of the year, the LED screens across Eden Park Stadium lit up with the AIG logo, the words "Insuring With Pride" and the rainbow flag.

The flag is a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) pride. With the match taking place during LGBT Pride Month, AIG took the opportunity to show its commitment to diversity and inclusion, and to the LGBT community worldwide.

"The AIG signage throughout the stadium was visible to the millions of rugby fans across the globe who attended the match in person, or watched it abroad," says AIG Chief Financial Officer Sid Sankaran, Executive Sponsor of the LGBT & Allies Employee Resource Group (ERG). "We are excited to be able to celebrate Pride Month in such a prominent way."

AIG is fostering a culture that actively seeks diverse backgrounds, life experiences and thinking styles to help understand, connect with and serve clients better. AIG currently has 91 ERGs across the globe – 10 of which are LGBT & Allies chapters – with nearly 12,000 members.

The signage at Eden Park Stadium is just one way that AIG and its employees are commemorating the beginning of the gay rights movement (the 1969 Stonewall riots) and the impact that LGBT individuals have had on history. AIG colleagues are taking part in pride marches around the world, including in New York City for the first time, and participated in dozens of other events held throughout June.
