All Blacks squad for Japan announced

After a competitive Investec Rugby Championship and Bledisloe Cup, the All Blacks selectors were faced with the tough challenge of naming their 31 strong squad that will travel to Japan.

The group is a mix of emerging talent and experienced campaigners. A total of 19 players will be making their first appearance at rugby’s biggest event and will be supported by 12 teammates who have experienced the pressure the tournament brings. With 17 forwards and 14 backs making up the balance of the side, All Blacks Head Coach, Steve Hansen is placing an emphasis on the team’s ability to adapt their game in the face of different opposition.

As always there were some notable omissions, but the focus at Wednesday's announcement was on acknowledging and celebrating those players who will get to represent their country and, in many cases, fulfill a childhood dream.

The team has one remaining home fixture against Tonga in Hamilton on September 7th. It will be the last chance for Hansen and the team to put the final touches on their game before departing for Japan.
